My wife, dog and I enjoyed the trails today. However the ticks were horrible!
Must’ve taken more than 20 off our dog.
We thought we sprayed enough bug/tick spray, but we were mistaken. Very nice shot hike on a beautiful day. Not sure we’ll return until it’s snow covered.
Yes, there was a large hatch of ticks recently after many weeks of none. I’m sorry you had so much trouble. I’ve found that Advantix-II works remarkably well on our dog even this week in the woods. Also please contact me for a current tick population report (and if you want to see if our dogs might enjoy a walk together.
Walked this evening before dark. The woods were pretty quiet and still except for an occasional woodpecker, hawk or thrush.. The smell of deep, wet, woods was so nice! The mixed hardwoods were bountiful this year with acorns and walnuts. Some of the vernal pools were full of water with colorful leaves and pine needles floating around which brought back memories of the spring salamander season. As far as ticks, after one embedded in me this spring, my strategy is to leave all my clothes and shoes outside overnight, then shower. I have not had another tick.
